From the console if I choose "8) Reset to factory defaults" and reboot, I expect the system to go back to how I got it from "the factory." This does not occur. Plenty of settings remain, such as the hostname, Samba settings, ZFS Pool info, etc.

Is there a true way to factory reset the system? I need to make certain that my backup/restore method is foolproof. I'm doing this on an iXSystems FreeNas Mini.

I believe this is a known issue that has since been solved.

Do note that data pools probably aren't touched on purpose, to mitigate accidents.

Yes, do a fresh install from the boot image. When it asks if you want to upgrade say no. ;)

That's as default as you can possibly get. Not even your zpool will be mounted (but the data will be safe).
