Hi,

wanted to replace a disk in my mirror volume in ZFS, using FreeNas 8.3.0 release. but it was not working. I was thinking I need to add it first using Volume manage to extent my mirror volume. but it add my a stripe.

Nope. Once it's added the only way to remove it is to destroy the zpool.

Come to think of it that really sucks for you. :((

I'm betting you had a mirror, one of the disks failed so you tried to replace it. Bought a new disk and put it in. But now you have no spare disk to rebuild the zpool and no redundancy either.

Copy your data to the third disk, destroy your zpool and recreate it with the 2 good disks. Then copy the data back to the zpool.

How should I copy my data... using Freenas or from outside of my FreeNas server.

Can I Create a new volume and copy to this other volume

I'd copy it whichever way you feel most comfortable with.

You could create a new volume and copy to that volume.

My volume is looking like that

freenasIssus2.jpg

I need to copy only those two files VMWARE_DS2 and VMWARE_DS a other Volume temporary

Delete Volume MAIN
Recreate it.
Recreate child volume

And after replace the newly recreated in /dev/zvol/MAIN/ by the one in the temporary volume
