I currently have 5 drives set up in Z2, and of the usable space I am only using 18%.

One of the drives has failed. Rather than replacing this I am wondering if I can reduce the number of drives in the volume so I still have 2 redundant drives but reduce the usable space by 1/3.

Is this possible in FreeNAS?

Nope. You'd need to backup your data, delete the volume and do a fresh start with the 4 disks in RAIDz2.

Thanks for the replies - I didn't realise the number of disks was so rigid.

I will stick with the 5 so it remains future proof and to avoid having to start again.
