NFS and SMB login as root?

I have never been able to get NFS or SMB shares to work. I was able to get SMB to work briefly until I had to restart trueNAS and now I am stuck.

I have dug through trueNAS documentation, watched freetube videos, conducted duckduckgo searches but nothing is working.

In terminal I used [sudo mount //192.168.1.84/mnt/folder/stuff /mnt/folder/stuff] terminal then listed [Password for root@//192.168.1.84/mnt/folder/stuff: ]

I used the password for the GUI and I reset the root password but terminal continues to tell me [mount error(13): Permission denied].

Can someone help to get NFS and/or SMB shares working correctly? This has been very frustrating, to the point that I have thought about ditching trueNAS.

Root user access to SMB shares is not allowed since TrueNAS 12. You need to create another user account and use that for access.
