Hello everyone,

If this is a stupid question, I apologize, just trying to learn more.

I am trying to find a solution to backup some family's files that is somewhat safe and since their internet has horrible upload I am looking into doing it on site.

I have a Dell Precison T3400 with two drives that are in a raid array and am thinking of blowing the array away to make a very bare bone Freenas.

They don't have many files and that is why I wonder if the T3400 with 2 GB of ram would suffice?

2GB of RAM will not suffice for FreeNAS.

That is kind of what I figured since I had been reading 8GB.

Maybe I will wait to try FreeNAS once I can afford high end hardware and much more RAM.

Thanks.

There are other file servers with lower hardware requirements ( perhaps NAS4Free? ), which you could try in the meantime.

You don't need high end hardware, just suitable hardware. A Dell PowerEdge T20 is still only $179. Just add 4GB of RAM and the two drives you already have.
