MiniDLNA - Can find media but can't play

As the title says, I've setup minidlna and mount points according to the documentation and I am able to see all the media within the MiniDLNA friendly name I specified on various devices (internet radio with network media player, 2x PC's running Windows, 2x Android phones) but can't play anything. Whenever I try to play a file, I get a media unavailable or other non descript error which varies depending on the device. I'm guessing it has something to do with 'permissions' or similar but I've got no idea what I'm looking for, or where I can retrieve log files for diagnosis. Any help from you guys would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!
