So i've got miniDLNA installed. Now i'm trying to test with a single video file and make sure its discoverable by other devices.

Opening VLC, XBOX 360 or my PS3 i can see the friendly name i've set for the miniDLNA plugin. I cannot however see the single avi video file i've put into my media folder.

To clarify my settings.
I have miniDLNA media directory set to
/mnt/prime/PluginsJail/soft/usr/pbi/minidlna-amd64/media

I have created a mount point
/mnt/prime/Media /mnt/prime/PluginsJail/soft/usr/pbi/minidlna-amd64/media

*** The test avi file sits in /mnt/prime/Media

I cannot seem to discover this file on any device mentioned above. I've also- in testing- set miniDLNA directly to /mnt/prime/media and deleted the mount point.

Any thoughts- suggestions?

As said in another thread, the directory settings in minidlna config screen is buggy... use the path within the jail there: /usr/pbi/minidlna-amd64/media, instead of /mnt/prime/PluginsJail/soft/usr/pbi/minidlna-amd64/media

I have the same problem. I have changed the directory settings, /usr/pbi/***. I think it is helpful. The warning about directory access was gone.
But the media files still can't not be discovered. I tried to start Minidlna manually in Jail as root user, but it doesnt work. Maybe some other service is using those ports? I have disabled other plugins.

My System is Freenas 8.2.0 release P1 - I386

This is the error info.

I'm not the best troubleshooter- but i'll ask questions and maybe we'll get somewhere.

Take a step back- your jail- is it on? Can you ping the IP address of your jail from another computer on your network?

Yes, because I can login transmission and firefly by 192.168.1.130:***X. I searched the error info by google, some people said It was caused by firewall rules or datebase. I tried to create a new files.db in /var/db/minidlna, but not work. I also gave a port rule in my route so that port 1900 is free (some website mentioned this port), not work.

Hi All, I've got very similar issue to gavin612 above

Mount point set as /mnt/tank/Video to /mnt/tank/Jail/software/mnt/MdlnaMapping
and in minidlna config the shared path is set to /mnt/MdlnaMapping

I get this on startup:

a.c:926: warn: Starting MiniDLNA version 1.0.22 [SQLite 3.7.9].
[2012/07/28 02:34:12] minidlna.c:949: warn: Creating new database...

[2012/07/28 02:34:12] minissdp.c:789: error: connect("/var/run/minissdpd.sock"): No such file or directory[2012/07/28 02:34:12] minidlna.c:1010: fatal: Failed to connect to MiniSSDPd. EXITING[2012/07/28 02:34:12] scanner.c:738: warn: Scanning /mnt/MdlnaMapping
[2012/07/28 02:34:22] scanner.c:809: warn: Scanning /mnt/MdlnaMapping finished (55 files)!

The file it mentions - /var/run/minissdpd.sock does not exist?
Any ideas?

Some progress - I've found if I enter the jail using jexec 1 /bin/tcsh and run sockstat it shows the below.
Then I run service status minidlna and it claims the service is stopped?
If I run kill -9 5133 to kill below process and then service start minidlna all is OK and files are viewable on the ps3 !
someone more knowleable here must be able to explain this?

USER COMMAND PID FD PROTO LOCAL ADDRESS FOREIGN ADDRESS
dlna minidlna 5133 5 udp4 *:1900 *:*
dlna minidlna 5133 6 tcp4 *:8200 *:*
dlna minidlna 5133 7 udp4 192.168.2.202:47965 *:*

Bump - is anyone else seeing this behaviour or any ideas why killing the process in the jail and starting it agian resolves the issue?

thanks

Thank you for posting this, rx2000. I had the same error:
connect("/var/run/minissdpd.sock"): No such file or directory
... and killing the process listed in sockstat, then restarting, repaired the issue I was having; my Sony Blu-Ray wasn't seeing the minidlna server. Obviously, this isn't a long-term solution. After starting the minidlna via the plugins web ui, the Sony was able to find the server and my media. I don't know if it means anything, but that minissdpd.sock still doesn't exist, however.

Hope this helps you, and eventually, me. :)
