Hello, as the title suggest after I install Kali Linux and finish the install successfully when I reboot and select it from the initial Kali Screen to boot it loads and stays on a black screen (no shell) Is there a workaround for it to boot correctly. (Yes I know it is Debian Based).

Any help if there is a workaround please let me know

FreeNAS version? Hardware specs? Anything in /var/log/messages when it fails to load?

@dlavigne I was not. Kali Will not boot at all still. Still waiting to see if anyone might have a solution
Sorry this doesn't help answer your question, but I'm curious, what's the purpose of running Kali in a VM on your server? I would have thought you would want access to the devices wifi/bluetooth/external devices, so a laptop would be ideal.. What's your use case?

@samuel-emrys the use case for me is that i'm not currently using it for external devices just simple playing around with the new release of KAli and Ghidra for a bit.

So, I can reproduce the problem.

I can also intervene and select advanced boot and recovery mode to get a prompt and look at logs, which highlights 2 things that may be part of the problem:

1. Real time clock isn't responding
2. /bin/plymouth can't be found (which is the last logged error)

I'll have a look later and see if some of the advice on that gives me a direction to go in.

I also note that instead of installing, just taking the live boot option also produces the same result directly from the ISO, so something isn't OK there in general. I'll share any findings... maybe will try another of their ISO options and see if I get a better result.

I was going to add that if you hadnt said that. About the live install

I know its on a kernel greater than 4.15 but i browsed the forum and it was fixed awhile ago for that bug so i found this one odd
