Attached is the spec sheet

For less than 200 bucks this seems like a steal. I just want to know if it would be a good FreeNAS platform.

Thanks for any advice.

Terrible idea.
  • no ECC RAM support
  • No way to know if the board will even boot FreeNAS
  • lots of crap like audio that you not only don't want, it can actively create problems even if disabled in the BIOS.
  • No way to know if you'll get BIOS updates.
  • Where the hell you supposed to put the disks? You get a single mSATA port and that's it. No, do NOT say USB because I will shank you if you mention it. ;)

Oh god, you're right. I feel so stupid. I was looking at small form factor servers all day and must have been confused. I saw the i5 and the price and got too excited. Thanks for slapping me back to reality.

If I wanted some really small system, that thing is pretty awesome. It would make a very cool toy to own and play with, but for FreeNAS, hell f*ck no! ;)

Glad you are back in reality.

What about this? I know it needs more ram. I'm thinking 3-4 hdds.

that is one of the entry-servers on the list I'm usually rattling off. nothing amazing, no IPMI, but perfect cheap FreeNAS box for 4-5 HDDs if you add in another 8GB DIMM.
