Hi all,

I've installed Transmission, created storage and assigned it the same user/group as my storage outside the jail. I can map to my folders within the jail, but Transmission is still unable to write to my storage when downloading a torrent.

What am I missing?

Cheers.

What are the permissions and ownership in the jail for your mounted storage.

Also post hardware and freenas version.

Hi there,

Thanks for responding!

System: FreeNAS 9.3 (HP Prolaint Micro Gen8, 8GB RAM, 2TB)

Permissions & Ownership (if understood correctly): when checking the jail in shell i can see 921:921, so I created a user/group with UID of 921 (User921), and mapped access to my storage directory outside the jail.

Within the jail storage I set the user/group to User921, and set user read/write/execute & group read/execute.....

If you give that folder read, write and execute for other does it work?

No - I set for both the user outside and inside the jail, but same error "Permission denied" when I assume Transmission is trying to create the folders...

Transmission also needs a directory for incomplete downloads. Does the incomplete directory exist with the right permissions?

Then I'm out of ideas. I found this description to be helpful though:
https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...ssion-and-couchpotato-as-a-dlna-server.17165/
The permissions needs to be updated if you want any kind of security, but apart from that it provides a good description of the setup. The only thing missing there is the incomplete directory but you already had that covered. I did a few more things differently. I don't use dlna and I don't have torrents directory. Instead I configured Couchpotato and Sickrage to connect directly to transmission.
If you want to use a VPN then this thread might be of interest:

Thanks Georg - I had already come across this thread, but will check it through again to make sure I've not missed anything. The VPN thread will be handy as I will be using this, just as soon as I get Transmission working! ;-)

So I've managed to resolve the permission issues using another method as described in the thread https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...plugins-write-permissions-to-your-data.27273/. I used SOLUTION 3 - GROUP WRITEABLE via the Transmission jail shell. I used my existing GID as the group owner of the data dataset/folders (1001 in my case), and added my existing user name (as described in the thread). All working!

Thanks for peoples input.

Hi! Borrowing this thread for my question.. Any help appreciated!

I'm pretty new to FreeNAS and of course I'm having trouble with permissions (I think).

I've got the latest stable release of FreeNAS (9.10) and the latest version of Transmission. The issue I'm having and that I just can't figure out why is happening, is that when downloads are completed in transmission, they do not appear in my downloads folder. But - if I restart my server, they sure enough show up after reboot. How can this be?
