I just received an email telling me this:
Code:
Device: /dev/ada1, 8 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors
Device: /dev/ada1, 8 Offline uncorrectable sectors

Which I guess comes from the default S.M.A.R.T test. I run a scrub which gave me 0 errors:
Code:
zpool status
  pool: ZFSPool
state: ONLINE
scan: scrub repaired 0 in 3h27m with 0 errors on Wed Oct 12 12:59:37 2016
config:

	NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM

errors: No known data errors

I am not sure if 8 Sectors (ada1 is 2 TB) are something to worry about especially if I have a mirror but the Alert signal is always popping up in the web view so I was hoping for some advice on what I should do.
Do I really have to get a new hd as fast as possible or can I just wait until it completely died (or at least more Sectors are unreadable)?

Output of smartctl -a /dev/adaX for all drives please. And with [CODE][/CODE] tags, not [CMD][/CMD] tags, please.

First problem: The drives have not seen a single SMART test, which is bad. SMART tests are the primary way of finding issues with drives before they cause trouble. (Well, some have seen three short tests, but you should be doing long tests every two weeks)

Now, ada1 has 8 bad sectors, which is on the high end of the "eeeehhh, better keep an eye on this..." range. Definitely have a spare ready and burned-in.

How is this possible?
ada0 and ada1 have a SMART test task scheduled (Short-Self-Test) wich was there by default. I had no clue why those other drives (ada2 and ada3( did not have a SMART task scheduled but I added it just now.
And where did the critical error come from if there was no SMART Test.

Well, errors can show up during normal operation. The errors might have been in the ZIL, which is very rarely read from and expires after the TXG gets flushed to the pool - hence they wouldn't show up during a scrub.

They can be in the swap too.

Been there. They showed up via a long test.

ok thanks for all the help. Since the hd is a 2TB WD Green, I would like to replace it with a 4TB WD Red since my guess will be that the other 2TB will also be the next failing hd so I then have a 4TB pool. Would that make sense?
Is that even possible to replace one disk of a 2TB pool (mirror-0) with a 4TB disk (I know that if that will be possible I would only use 2TB of that 4TB disk)

Of course. The pool will automagically expand once the other drive has been replaced with a larger one.

Well but a mirror-0 pool will only expand when both drives are 4TB in my case. So when I now have a 2TB and a 4TB hd the pool size os also only 2TB right?
