Hey,
Imagine a situation for you home/SOHO, where you have:At home we have in total:
  • Macbooks
  • PCs
  • Android devices
  • iPhones
  • iPads
  • Android Tablets
You also have a camera, where all photos are being stored on one of the computers, and later possibly manually synced to the shared /photo dataset on the FreeNAS.
And of course, you are also taking pictures with your personal phones and occasionally with the tablets.

In my case, at the moment we use TimeMachine to backup our Macbooks to FreeNAS, but I would like to be able to backup all devices into the FreeNAS.
As an added bonus, I would like to create a private/shared storage to sync all our photos.

What do you guys use for your home/soho?
What would you recommend for this situation? Crashplan, BitTorrent Sync...?

My FreeNAS is at my home/soho.

I use tons of different methods for different things. What exactly are you trying to do? Just sync your files? For that I use Syncthing. For backups, I use rsync to back everything up to FreeNAS, and crashplan to back up that data to their cloud service.

Ok, you're right.
Let's focus on phone backups for now.

Owncloud, Syncthing, btsync are all good options for most all devices.

And could they create weekly backups and/or incremental backups?

All the options I listed are SYNCING apps/services/utilities. There is no 'backup' software for phones in the same sense there is for computers.

For Android devices look at FolderSync. For iOS devices, just use their icloud. Any of those apps that I listed will sync photos to your server at an interval you designate, but they aren't 'backup apps'
