Hello forum members,
I joined to find out more about Freenas and if it could be a solution that could help.
The purpose for a new NAS will be to provide iSCSI storage to a vmware server in a homelab setting.
It will not be a 24/7 running system, nor will it need to be HA. But data integrity is key.
I run also run a Synology, and it's the reason for looking elsewhere, I don't like the interface too much and the hardware is pretty basic.

I've read quite a few threads already, but still reading on
For now I'm considering a rack mounted solution consisting of a 2U enclosure, a Supermicro X9/X10 mobo+low power CPU, 16GB ECC RAM, and 6 HDD (not considered the options), for HDA I need to make my mind up to go for the MOBO's internal ones or directly get a LSI/IBM or alternative.
