I just wanted to say hello to all freenas supporters and forum members. Great work !
I had been using FreeBSD as a home server for two or three years. After that I switched to a ReadyNas-System and replaced that with a Qnap TS-419p+. The Qnap was speedier than the ReadyNas, but I felt I could need a little more performance and expandability. Looking around I soon stumbled over freenas and thought I could get away using my old computer. Ha ! Thanks to Cyberjocks excellent Noob-Guide I soon found out, that I needed ECC RAM. The replacement of the mainboard + RAM + Server-Case was as expensive as the Dell T20, so I bought that machine. As I'm using a RAIDZ configuration I still need my Qnap as a backup machine to the freenas system. Just updated from 9.2.1.8 to 9.3. via GUI without problems. That's all for now. I hope to get involved into some interesting discussions sooner or later.
