Hi.
I am new to freenas, I am hoping to build a server for my roughly 17tb of photos. Seems like I have a lot to learn,

I ordered an old HP 350ML G6 and some memory. I suppose it is not an ideal solution, but that is what I will be starting with.

But I will come back with more specific questions when I get started.

Hi there and Welcome :)

Starting with enterprise class hardware is a great first start.
Take your time to make experiments on that machine (like disk replacement) before copying data on it, so that you feel comfortable with everything.

I have a history of making strange hardware choices, but thank you for your advice. I will experiment with the machine before doing anything final, and keep everything backed up anyways.

We will see how it goes.
