New to this forum, I just finished installing FreeNAS on my old HP Microserver N40L. I installed a modified BIOS and added 16GB ECC RAM, 4 WD Red 4TB hard disks in RAID10, and two 16GB USB drives for booting.
I will use this NAS for backing up my computers, and to archive important files, possibly adding some cloud backup solution. Installation was straightforward; after the ArsTechnica review of FreeNAS I feared that the GUI would have been difficult to use, but to me is very coherent and comprehensible.
Old time Linux and OSX user, I am quite new to FreeBSD, but I liking a lot what I am seeing (ZFS, and well written documentation), and I am planning to setup a FreeBSD or TrueOS workstation for coding.
Best,
Roberto
