Hello,

Just a quick introduction and to say hello to all FreeNAS community.

I have decided to move onto FreeNas, after running Win2k8R2 server for a several years and got to the point that I just had enough. I have been running 8x1TB drives over port multiplier as a storage for our Home Cinema system. Total taking over 300W + lot of heat.

I have now got HP Microserver N40L and got 5x2TB drives (Seagate green stuff), again, over port multiplier. Inclusive with UPS, total power consumption is less than 100W.

Now, I'm looking into "seamless" transfer over to FreeNAS system.

Regards
Darko

Welcome Darko,

You might want to take a look at my tutorial on using Rsync as well as the official documentation. All those links are in my signature below.

Cheers

Thanks, I'll be starting tonight :)

The main server will be turned off, once data is transferred, I'll still keep those 8x1TB drives. I have just realised that hose are WD Green ones, now almost 3-4 years old. Could still have some life in them if I create a RAIDZ2 pool, extra 6TB can be filled ;)
