Dears,
I have been looking for safe NAS/DAS. Complete solution from different vendors is expensive and loud. I stuck until I have read about a test made in CERN. The test showed, from time to time, RAID controllers do not "realize" about mistakes had happened.
Solution was ZFS and I heard about FreeNAS.
I am going to use 8x Seagate ST10000NM0086 with RAIDZ2. From my experience that helium HDD is cooler then others at least 4-5 degrees. Mainly I work with files. Net with 10 GBase-T, I hope is enough ;). Multimedia server is very expected as nice feature. 4k video shouldn't be a problem. One, max two virtual machine is going to run. So, nothing special.
I am not decided what mainboard, processor, case is best for me. Quietness is very important for me.
What do you recommend me? Is there any support from GPU?
For my convenience and others guys, I started translating the GUI into Polish. I hope my knowledge is enough.
