I'm having some strange issues with my FreeNAS box. It's currently running 11.2 RC2 STABLE.
Here are the symptoms: 1st, I noticed that I couldn't connect to my freeNAS via GUI, so I tried to do it via SSH with no luck. I pinged it and it appears to be working. I try to logon to plex and it doesn't work so I do a hard shutdown and restart. I then have the same issues so I reset my modem and do another hard reset on my nas. Finally I can login (at this point, I hooked up a monitor and keyboard to my NAS). I noticed that all my jails were missing and did a bit of research (they all came back when i reset the system again).

At this point. The system is turned on, I can [intermittently] watch vids on plex, and I can ping the freenas. However, the console is all but frozen, as in I can put in commands and type but it doesn't register, it just scrolls up. I can't access the gui, I can't access any of the mapped network drives, and I can't SSH. I I can do a hard reset and get access to it, but I don't want to do that until I'm actually trying to fix the issue, since it only works temporarily. did some research but I didn't find anything that can help me (most of the issues were encountered during install or on another version of freeNAS with different symptoms).

I thought about updating to the newer version, but there's a warning that it should only be used for testing so I won't be doing that. I'm not sure exactly how to fix this issue without the risk of losing all my data.

Update: I noticed on the console via the FreeNAS monitor that it says this:
Code:
ugen0.5: <Samsung Flash Drive FIT> at usbus0 (disconnected)
umass0: at uhub0, port 19, addr 4 (disconnected)
da0 at umass-sim0 bus 0 scbus7 target 0 lun 0
(da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): Periph destroyed
umass0: detached

It's currently running 11.2 RC2 STABLE.
You have the RC (Release Candidate) version installed and the "Release" version is out now, so you can safely upgrade to that, but I think you have a hardware fault that needs to be corrected first.
The USB boot drives are not very reliable under the more recent versions of FreeNAS because they get too much activity and wear out.
You are going to need to replace the boot drive but it might be best to replace it with something better. Please have a look at some of the suggestions here:

When you are ready to reinstall, this is the version you might want to get:

PS. Do you have a backup of your current config?

I sort of do. All my important files are on my computer too, but not as well organized so it would be a pain to redo. I'm planning on buying 2 8tb external HDDs to have an insight back up and an offsite backup (setup at my moms.house), but the budget is tight. I dont have a backup of the bott drive.

Not the data. Your storage pool should be fine. It's the boot pool, on USB, that appears to be failing. Your configuration.db file is the settings for FreeNAS. Having a backup of that makes replacement of the boot pool very easy.
