Ive been running freenas for about a month now, and everything was going pretty good. I have a raidz2 setup, and about 4.5tb of data. The NAS is connected to a HTPC running Plex, all on a GB network. Video playback for the first 2 weeks was flawless. Then I started to run into some annoying little problems. Several of my movies now get pixely/choppy for a second or two, almost appearing as if I am missing my GPU drivers. It even goes so far as certain movies will only play for 20 minutes before stopping completely.
I have tested this on 3 local pcs, a remote pc, I have tried copying one of the movies directly to 3 pcs and playing locally, all experienced the same problem. I do have CCCP codecs installed.
The remote pc that we tested was my friend's pc, who has a very similiar setup, with no problems.
I even went as far as to reload my htpc, and I am still having this issue. I had snapshots setup, and i created a quick clone and tried playing that file locally and from the nas, and experienced the exact same issue at the exact same time in the movie.
This has led me to believe that this movie, as well as many others, have become corrupt.
Are there any suggestions that any of you might have to help me resolve this issue?

Please doesn't work. ;)

While you guys are helping him, keep in mind the corruption could have occurred before the file hits the pool.

I dont think that the corruption occurred prior because it was in the pool for a few weeks prior to the corruption. And those particular movies did play fine.

Put code tags around the text: [ code] text goes here [ /code] (without the leading spaces in the brackets).

Did you do a RAM test lately?

Have you tried watching these same corrupt videos with a program like VLC? It used to be that if you used incompatible codecs that would happen to load through media players the file may play but when newer features were utilized it would appear as corruption.

Edit: You could try a RAM test. You may have defective ram on your FreeNAS server leading to corruption.

Thank you for the input on how to post in code. I fixed my previous post to be put in code. :)

I have also tested with VLC player, and many different codec packs: Klite,Kmega,CCCP,Hali

a Ram test I have not done. I will do that today.
I've always just ran memtest 86 from hirens, or is there another RAM test that is suggested here.

I ran memtest for 12 hrs so far, with no errors. Ill let it run another 12.
I did obtain new copies of 2 of my "test" movies, and ran them on multiple machines, all played flawlessly.
I would hate to have to obtain new copies of virtually all my media :(, which is about 4.2tb worth

Well, I have ran memtest and PC Check, all the hardware passes with no problems.
Unless anyone has any other suggestions, looks like I am going to slowly start rebuilding my collection :(

If you "obtain" a new copy of a file corrupted on your NAS, do a binary file comparison ("FC" under Windows, or WinMerge) between the two copies and update this thread.

I couldnt use Winmerge, and couldnt get FC unders windows to work. Im assuming its because both files are over 4gb ea..

Im unable to copy over the differences without purchasing a program, but on one of the movies, there were 1504 differences, and on the other movie, there were 3268 differences.
