Hey all, new lurker here and first time NAS builder. The goal of my FreeNAS is media sharing with plex, storing photos and saving HD footage from my 4 1080p PoE cameras for my house.
I originally intended on doing some grand buildout and after sitting on it for a bit, went with something much more modest:
ASUS P8P67-DELUXE motherboard
Intel i5-2500k Processor
8 GB G.Skill DDR3 RAM (non-ECC)
4x 3 TB WD RED
Everything but the drives were pulled out of my previous gaming rig which I just upgraded this past summer that were literally just sitting in the closet. I realize that non-ECC isn't the way to go and I can lose my data using it, unfortunately this processor doesn't support it however. I'll be implementing backups for the data however. I'm piecing together the parts for a full blown NAS which will be compatible, just not quite there yet. I'll also be adding another 8 GB RAM in this rig ASAP so that FreeNAS will play a little better with it.
Anyone running a similar build that's had good success/or vice-versa?
Nice to meet everyone and I'll see you guys around I'm sure
Joe
