Hey There,

My system HW:
  • Asrock C2750D4I (replaced in December 2018 under warranty with the root cause attributed to Intel bug)
  • Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3/DDR3L-1600MT/s (PC3-12800) DR x8 ECC UDIMM Server Memory CT2KIT102472BD160B/CT2CP102472BD160B
  • SilverStone Technology 450W SFX Form Factor 80 PLUS BRONZE Power Supply with +12V single rail, Active PFC (ST45SF)
  • 6x WD60EFRX (upgraded from WD30EFRX in Nov 2018 to increase storage capacity)

At this point, the drive is reconnected and available but with 24 CKSUM errors.

I am unsure what my next troubleshooting step should be to determine if the hard drive is ok. Is anyone able to provide some suggestions on next steps to ensure the drive is usable?

I would say, just based on what you have shared, that the drive is done and you may even have other drives that are on their way out. Best to have a look at them all, but plan to replace that one bad actor before it spoils things.

Have you got scheduled SMART short and long testes running?
You could share the output of smartctl -x /dev/da2 substituting your actual drive id instead of da2. The output should look something like this:

All of these drives are super hot. one of them is 49ºC Need airflow. Make fans go faster or add more fans. Long SMART results with the -X will show more information.

You could share the output of smartctl -x /dev/da2 substituting your actual drive id instead of da2

All of these drives are super hot. one of them is 49ºC Need airflow.
I did a quick Google search and it seems the drives are on the warmer side, but should be ok?
I can take a look as I have 3x Antec TrueQuiet 120 120mm Case Cooling Fans. Maybe they are on the low setting and I can kick them up to the high setting.

Attaching this file was an interesting change, but I am not accustomed to looking at this as most users don't. I am not complaining.
I did a quick Google search and it seems the drives are on the warmer side, but should be ok?
If I recall correctly, those particular drives WD60EFRX are rated by the manufacturer for up to 50°C for normal operation. High temperature kills drives though, so if you want your data drives to last longer, it is best to keep them cool. I try to keep my drives under 40°C, but my hottest two drives are usually around 42°C. Still, the coolest drives in my system are around 31°C consistently and there are only eight that are 40°C or more, which isn't too bad for a system with 32 drives, I think...
I have 3x Antec TrueQuiet 120 120mm Case Cooling Fans. Maybe they are on the low setting and I can kick them up to the high setting.
It might be a good idea to bump the speed up. Quiet is nice, but having to spend money to buy new drives is not as nice.

Another thing to look at, all your drives are reporting this:

So, to me it looks like you don't have any test scheduled and your SMART daemon is not even running.

So you need to schedule tests of the drives through the GUI. Here is the section of the manual on that:

I have my system run a short SMART test on a daily basis. I picked 5AM, but a time that is good for you and the other things your system is doing. It only takes around five minutes to complete so it is not a big deal.
I also scheduled a weekly long SMART test to run on Monday morning at 7AM. I work days, so I am on my way to work by that time and it doesn't interfere with my schedule, but you should choose a time that works for you. It usually takes several hours to complete because the long test does a full surface scan of the disk. If I recall correctly, my 6TB drives finish in about 12 hours and access speed is slower during that time but the drives can still be used.
I would suggest that you do long tests on all your drives. The directions on kicking that off manually are in the drive troubleshooting guide I linked to earlier. You can kick them all off at once because they run internal to the drive, they can run concurrently. Several of your drives are exhibiting errors that are worrying, but I feel those errors may be due to excessive heat.

I see you don't have a supermicro board, so you would have been unable to take advantage of the PID script to control the fans based on drive temperatures.

You may be interested in testing out the option I worked on to allow you to add a Corsair Commander Pro to your box to control the fans.

At this point, the drive is reconnected and available but with 24 CKSUM errors.
You should run the long SMART test on all drives first, but after that is done, run a scrub on the pool.

I experienced similar issues with this board due to the integrated marvell controller (9172 and 9230).
When disks are connected on it (SATA3_M0/M1 and SATAIII_M0/M3 connectors on the board) I sometimes got one disk dropping from the pool and that was back after a reboot.
Although it was generally accompanied with CAM status: CCB request [...] error console messages but not necessarily.

To eliminate this issue, check if you drives are connected to the marvell controllers or not.
