Hi guys i had a 1 second power trip, Freenas server i could not see it shutting down and restarting. However the pool is degraded. i have not re started it yet but i am not sure if it is a real issue or after i re booted it will be back to normal. 1 of the disk da7 have read and write errors, from GUI it is in 'faulted' state now.

And if i change disk, these are the steps from GUI ?

1. Plug in new disk without removing faulted disk which is da7
2. At da7>replace disk>replace it with new disk

or

1. Remove da7
2. Plug in new disk>replace

or

1. Offline da7 and remove physically
2. Insert new disk>replace

i really have phobia from last 2 weeks experience where pool cannot be seen.

Code:
root@freenas:~ # zpool status
  pool: Data-Media

status: Some supported features are not enabled on the pool. The pool can
still be used, but some features are unavailable.
action: Enable all features using 'zpool upgrade'. Once this is done,
the pool may no longer be accessible by software that does not support
the features. See zpool-features(7) for details.

OK guys, the pool is Data-Storage & looking at the manual

1. Offline the disk da7 from GUI
2. Power down to remove da7, insert new disk
3. Power up and GUI & look for the Offline new disk to replace disk in pool Data-Storage.
4. Let it re silver, then pool becomes healthy again.
5. If above not right please let me know

Question : i am going to re boot first and see if pool is still degraded or do a scrub first before i re boot.(have not done a scrub for a year but i am not sure if it helps or will worsen the condition)

Appreciate opinions and experience please

update: upon re boot server went back to normal healthy condition. (1 data error is due to the previous experience)

will update stability

I would do a scrub on the data pool and a long SMART test, a reboot clears the error list.

1. Plug in new disk without removing faulted disk which is da7
2. At da7>replace disk>replace it with new disk
Once you're ready to replace I'd do this route. Once the replacement is done if you have a hot-swap chassis you can just pull the old disk.

What are the temps like where your server is? What about humidity? Both will affect longevity of devices.

thanks Philo, the hot swaps does not seem to work, i tried and it always crashes.

if there is a disk faulted or spoiled, in future i'd do it this way from the manual

"Offline the disk da7 from GUI
2. Power down to remove da7, insert new disk
3. Power up and GUI & look for the Offline new disk to replace disk in pool Data-Storage.
4. Let it re silver, then pool becomes healthy again."

this is the right way ya ?

temp is about 40-50 degree C, humidity is about 80%

Looks right to me; I wouldn't argue with the User Guide on this one. :)

temp is about 40-50 degree C, humidity is about 80%
These ranges will cause premature drive failure at slightly higher rates. If possible try to get the humidity and temps down. Ideally temps below 40 but around 30 is better and humidity lower. This article suggests that humidity plays a bigger role than some folks originally thought.

after putting disks back into case where there are hdd bays (with small fans at rear), the temp drops to about 35 C. i guess the bays are working
