What did it do at that time? Try update?

Nope, just its regular check to see if any updates are available. The check failed as there was no Internet connectivity. Thus the message.

Ok but then why would it stop working completely?

Define stopped working completely. Does the system have an IP address? Are you able to access the GUI? You have not provided any information on what the problem is.

Something changed in your network, you will need to resolve whatever the network issue is.

Why was it reset to factory defaults? That cleared network settings, share settings, everything. Normally after doing that, you would either restore a config file backup, or reconfigure settings by hand.

There wasn't much on it. So I thought resetting it would fix it. Wasn't worried about losing what was on it

Okay. Reconfigure networking at least, then you will be able to get to the GUI.

Unless you know exactly which addresses are in use, I'd suggest setting it to DHCP, then rebooting.
