I have an intel(?) chipset quad port gigabit NIC made by sun ... I dropped it into my FreeNAS 9.3 box and booted up but the kernel doesn't load the driver. (I believe igb or em will work)

I downloaded the FreeBSD 9.x IGB driver from Intel and when I run make, it needs the Kernel source tree ... if this were a full install of FreeBSD no prob but apparently FreeNAS is pretty stripped down.

any ideas on how to get my make to run? thanks!

What's the specific model and chipset? Both of those drivers are available so redoing the kernel isn't the answer.

Sun Gigabit Quad Port 1000 BaseT Network Adapter 511-1422-01, ATLS1QGE

Is an older card BUT has windows drivers (XP, 2000, 2003 +) so I find it hard to believe there isn't a FreeBSD port. I believe the chipset is Intel Pro 1000 (PT?)

There's a nice HUGE heatsink on top of the chipset so I can't say for sure ... can't find much detailed info on it

Not sure if its Intel or not. Doesn't look like my quad port Gb LAN card though. Somehow I seriously doubt its Intel.

I've used FreeBSD for awhile but never to "look under the hood" ... that said any idea how I can query the card for information, maybe a mac address?

pciconf is what I would use.

thanks for the advice ... based on the pciconf output, this card is NOT an Intel chipset card. Thank God it was only $18 :D
