Hi All,

I seem to be having a problem with the CIFS service on my install of FreeNAS-8.3.1-RELEASE-x64.
When I alter the CIFS service configuration in the service tab, I disable the CIFS service, make changes, and then attempt to re-enable the service.

When I try to re-enable the service, i am unable to do so, and receive the error stating "Thew Service Could not be Started".

To fix this, and to enable the CIFS service again, I have to reboot, and attempt to enable the service again, however, even though the service will indicate that it is enabled, the shares and server name will not be connectable on a windows install, where previously it was, with the exact same configuration.

I posted this on the IRC channel for assistance and have done the following:

- Posted the logs pertaining to when i attempt to enable the CIFS service

If anyone can help me out any further as it seems I can no longer enable the CIFS service in the webGUI.

EDIT: If i do reboot, and start the CIFS service, it enables correctly in the GUI, and windows detects the server, and the logs are as follows...
If I disable the service again, and try to re-enable, it will give the error listed above.

Code:

Austin,

From your screenshot it looks like you typed "sub.conf" instead of "smb.conf"

Hi ProtoSD,

I was following instructions from an IRC chat member and followed a typo. If you look a few lines down, I executed the command on the correct file :)
Sorry, probably should have mentioned.

Also, When i start the CIFS service after having rebooted, the console shown on the video out of the NAS gives this

Code:
APR 9 10:45:10 freenas afpd[2220]: Failed to contact server: Daemon not running

If there's anything else i can do to help diagnose, please do say...

I'm not sure if this has solved the problem i was having, but un-checking the option for "Zeroconf share discovery" in the CIFS config panel seems to have stopped this error from occurring.
