Can TrueNAS read ExFAT formatted drives?

I have few ExFAT formatted drives, all I need is to move the files from the drives, I don't want to make them part of the array or anything.
Can TrueNAS read the ExFAT drives or I'll have to find another solution to move the files?

No.

(at least not without a bunch of "probably later regretted" messing with it)

Best bet is to run a version of linux on a USB drive and use that to copy the data across (easiest would be over network, more advanced would be to have that linux distro use ZFS and import the pool ad copy data directly... be very careful if you go there not to upgrade the pool).

Can you recommend a Linux version that supports ZFS? (I don't know much about Linux, but willing to learn)

Debian and Ubuntu are both fine for that. Ubuntu may be a little more user-friendly for someone new to Linux (but they are very similar in the backend and use the same package system (apt).

This page shows the packages you would need to install (on either OS).


But I see that Ubuntu has put it in the kernel already now since 16, so that process is easier:
