I was trying to setup a new FreeNAS 8.0.3 system and my Adaptec 5805 was not working well for me.
I could see the drives in the /var/run/dmesg.boot file but they were not present in the FreeNAS GUI to mount. The array was set to JBOD, all drives were initialized prior to creating the JBOD. I could not see the drives in the GUI so I read that sometimes drives that were part of a raid are not visible. Given the drives used to be part of an 8 drive Raid 6 system, I plugged all drives into SATA controllers 6, then 2, and "initialized" them using FreeNAS (made them part of a striped array) and then repeated the JBOD creation. Still no luck seeing the drives in the FreeNAS GUI.
I am using the latest Adaptec 18252 firmware.
My drives are all WD Green 1.5TB. They worked great for me in my Raid 6 system with the Adaptec card on Windows 7.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Given I needed the space back, I have it setup as a 6 disk RaidZ1 but I would love to be able to use all 8 drives.
Cheers,
