I originally installed FreeNAS on my hard drive by mistake. Everything worked fine except, of course, I could not create storage pools as the device was being used as the boot device.

So, I installed FreeNAS on a USB drive. It installed fine. I made sure it is booting from the USB. However, it is assigning an IP address of 0.0.0.0 and there is no option to set a static IP manually.

When selecting "Configure Network Interfaces", I am provided a single option "em0" which throws no errors upon reset.

Why would it work when booted from the hard drive but not from the USB?

SOLUTION
In the BIOS, scroll to boot options and ensure that anything to do with USBs or networks is turned to either "on" or "full" (minus obvious exceptions)

I also had to delete the current link agreggation and create a new one and manually set up the ipv4
