Hey everyone,
I just need a little confirmation to see if I'm just not seeing something, or if I truly may have a problem with my hardware... Currently I have four Seagate Ironwolf 6Tb configuered in a Z1 raid. When I originally created the pool, I remember clearly being SUPER impressed that I had a total of 20.x Tb of available space in the pool! Brad was a happy man! For reference, I also have another WD 1Tb that's dedicated to Transmission and another 2 mirrored Samsung EVO 250 Gb that are dedicated to my jails. My chassis is a Thermaltake Core V71 with 4 x 200mm fans (2 front intake and 2 top exhaust), 1 x 140mm watercooler (for the CPU) exhausting out the rear with push/pull fans, and the fans that are on my PSU at the bottom of the chassis.
Shortly after the original pool creation (can't remember how long exactly but back around FreeNAS V9.10), I started getting system alerts that the pool had suffered unrecoverable errors, was in a degraded state, but would be able to keep on keeping on... Long story short, it turned out that I had a bad SATA cable(s), so I switched all but one connecting to the pool, as I didn't have enough on hand at the time. Being so long time ago and I'm not 100% of the specific details though... Yeah, getting old sucks...
I totally forgot all about that last cable because everything was smooth sailing up until very recently. I started getting more alerts that there were unrecoverable errors and it hit me like a Mac Truck when I remembered I had forgot all about the last SATA cable!!! And sure enough, as I traced the errors, they were coming from the drive I had not changed the cable for and FreeNAS had automatically taken the drive OFFLINE. I changed the cable asap, which in truth was a couple weeks later (just last Thursday evening) as I don't have the server at my place, it's located at my parents condo in another city... When I booted back up, the system automatically had the drive back online and was already in the process of resilvering... About 5.5'ish hours later back at home I confirmed that the resilver completed successfully without errors via PuTTy.
However, my pool currently only has 15.53Tb of total capacity and not the 20Tb it started out with when I first created the pool. So, somewhere I seamed to have lost about 5Tb worth of capacity. Currently, the FreeNAS GUI is reporting that the pool is sitting at only 70% with a max capacity of 15.53 Tb. Yesterday, I just bought another 6Tb Seagate Ironwolf, as I was intending to swap out the bad drive, run the SeaTools from a DOS bootable USB on another Windoze computer as per the Seagate website instructions expecting to have to RMA the drive, but then I just noticed that in the smart results I'm sharing below, it says that Reallocated Sector Count for ALL four of my existing drives is actually at zero, which I TOTALLY expected that there would be a hell of a lot given the error descriptions... (And I will totally admit, that perhaps I just jumped to a conclusion before really taking a look at things, but don't tell the wife... Perhaps I can just use the drive to expand the pool, as my chassis does has 8 drive bays dedicated for my Tank pool...
So in short, I know so many of you out there will have much more experience than me, so I'm asking if someone could take a look at my data below for each drive and let me know if I actually have nothing to worry about, or should I swap out one of the drives with the new one I just bought and attempt an RMA while I actually have a spare drive on hand? Hopefully there's enough info below, but if anyone needs anything else, just ask and I'll get it asap!
Oh, and before I get... After the drive finished resilvering on Thursday night, there were 26 CHKSUM errors for /dev/ada1 (the one that was offline and resilvered) when I ran "zpool status Tank". I should have been in bed sleeping at that point for sure, because not thinking clearly I just went ahead and cleared the errors, which is why the status currently says there are none.
