How long did your ASROCK c2550d4i or c2750d4i last

@theirman - given that your boards have only recently died (and you may not have sent them back yet), it would be really interesting to see whether you've suffered the same fate. In my case, the BMC was still running and I was able to temporarily resurrect my board by logging into IPMI, making a couple of trivial configuration changes (it doesn't matter what - logging config would be a good example), saving changes, removing power from the wall and then successfully booting up. Might take a couple of goes.

If you can get your system going again, boot into FreeNAS (I'd recommend disconnecting your precious disks before doing this), TelNet or SSH into your IPMI IP address, then run the command:
Code:
inotifywait -mr -e close_write /conf/

In a bad system, you'll see the following file written to every second:
Code:
conf/BMC1/ CLOSE_WRITE,CLOSE IPMIConfig.dat

It won't bring your board back, but at least you'll know you're in the club!!

Finally got back today but alas, no luck.
Made some BMC changes, but that didn't do anything. Did exactly as you said, but I keep getting no video output through IPMI. Board just turns on, and that's it. IPMI console stays black and never resizes.

Does the host boot?
No, it does nothing. The IPMI interface blocks out the "Power On" option, and "Power Off/Powercycle" etc has been disabled. But that's the only way I can tell it's been powered on.

Ah that's a shame. I take it you removed the power cord after changing something in BMC and before attempting to power cycle?

Yes, did it word for word. :)
Submitted a technical request form in the meantime since the board should have 3 years warranty. Unsure if I'll get it.
No response yet anyways.

I have a feeling ASrock is getting fairly good at RMAing these boards at the moment ;)

Anyone got an update regarding this issue? My c2750d4i died last night. No video via VGA or IPMI, no POST and no beeps.
I've removed all memory, addon cards, reset of the CMOS but nothing seems to work. Bought my c2750d4i in 2013, so i think i'm out of luck regarding warranty :(

Had the SuperMicro MBD-A1SAM-2550F-O board for a few weeks and it stopped booting from USB for no reason. Returned it, and got the Asrock c2550d4i 9/15 and have not had a single problem since running 24/7 with a hand full of drives and Plex being used almost daily and Transmission running 24/7. Been behind an APC Battery the whole time. Hopefully I get more than another year out of it. :-/

edit: Watchdog timer was enabled in FreeNAS but not in BIOS... until today.

Don't forget to disable the watchdog in BIOS and FreeNAS on your Asrock c2550d4i;

https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...2x50-d4i-boards-by-disabling-the-watchdog.16/

Watchdog has been disabled in the bios since about day 2 because I was getting random resets with it enabled and zero problems once disabled in BIOS. I have not disabled it in FreeNAS. When booting I remember it saying something along the lines of "watchdog present but hardware disabled," yet it was still getting written every 1s.

Thanks

edit: was still being written to every second.... Fuc/<

edit: maybe I should order a replacement chip now to have on hand when/if it dies.

If you're on 9.10.1-U3 or later, the watchdog should be patted in a way that makes it not write its configuration to flash. The downside is that it also doesn't do its job, so it might as well be disabled.

You are welcome.

Note that the NVRAM / Flash chip for this function is soldered to the system board. One of the pictures
I saw showed a gull wing 8 pin surface mount DIP. Not too hard to replace with the proper (de-)
soldering iron. But, nothing I would attempt today :-(.

Less turn around time if I solder it and I won't be stuck flipping a coin on a refurbished board from the manufacturer. I'm gonna have to see if I can get one and what it will take to flash it of course.

Anyone have a dead board they wanna sell for $5+shipping?

You're about 2 months too late lol I had mine sitting around for months and finally listed it on eBay figuring no one would want it, it sold for $40 haha

My Mini's motherboard just died. Purchased on June 25, 2015 and it failed on December 1, 2016. Ordered replacement identical motherboard (ASRock C2750D4I) from Amazon and swapped it in. Works like a charm. Will be rolling the dice on getting the old motherboard repaired/replaced under their warrantee, but I'm not holding my breath that will happen.

When it died, the BMC reported

Code:
Upper Non-Critical - Going High - Asserted
Upper Critical - Going High - Asserted
Upper Non-Recoverable - Going High - Asserted

All timestamped at the time I attempted to reboot.

It is possible but may take a while, the dude that bought mine off of ebay had it fixed, he said it took like a month and cost him like $100 IIRC but he saved like $200 on a new one haha I'm kinda surprised that you got another one, but then again nothing really else would fit in the mini most likely, that was my issue with me Silverstone DS380. I finally ditched it and went with a full tower NZXT H440 haha

I awoke this morning to my C2550d4i being dead. Bought June 26, 2015. IPMI continues to work but powering it on results in fans spinning for 2-4 seconds and then off it goes. Sounds as if I've gotten bitten by the BMC flash problem too.Tried clearing the CMOS but it did not resolve the problem. I've filled out the technical support form with ASRock... hopefully something comes of it!

It was not my first choice to get the same motherboard, but I found nothing that a) fits the case, and b) has enough high speed SATA ports. Plus, I have not enough clues to figure out how to re-connect all the wires without taking pictures and copying it exactly. :) Time vs. money trade off plays its hand again.

My ASRock C2550D4I just died after 14 months of use.... I disabled the watchdog a few months ago and updated my FreeNAS when the "fix" became available but it seems to have not worked for me... sigh
