I have tried to find a solution to my problem and it probably exists somewhere, but I have been unable to find it, so my apologies in advance. I am trying to get my home Freenas machine to send my ZFS snapshots to my remote Freenas server which is behind a pfSense firewall. I have tried to follow all the steps in the manual, but it keeps telling me that there is no connection to the remote server. Please help. I can do local replications to a external USB drive, but would prefer to automate the system to my remote server. Please help!

We use pfSense to tie our remote offices into the mothership. Our remote FreeNAS servers replicate their data to the corporate office. Here are the steps to make this happen...

1. Create a VPN connection between your locations using pfSense.

2. Snapshot your data.

3. Replicate your data.

While pfSense supports multiple VPN technologies, IPSec is a relative breeze to setup, is well-documented and well-supported.

Cheers,
Matt
