Hello there. I have an empty iOmega Storcenter ix2 and I was wondering if I could use it as a pool in a Citrix Xenserver VM. What I'm thinking is that I could install FreeNAS in a VM in my Xenserver, then map the iOmega (with my own 2x3TB WD Reds) and have it running in JBOD mode so that FreeNAS can handle everything. Has anyone done such thing before? I'm hoping to replace a gigantic HP server with this small iOmega solution.

No. The general concept is messy enough with carefully selected hardware and protocols, it's absolutely impossible with that thing.

Thanks for saving me hours of work! I usually do crazy stuff on weekends with extra equipment I have lying around. You've just made my peace. Thanks! Guess I'll just make it into plex box.
