Hi ....

Just set up FreeNAS-8.0.4-RELEASE-p1-x64 a week or so ago, and then
successfully ran the upgrade to p2... Hats off to the developers, seems
to be a really neat system.

I know a bit about linux, but I'm no guru, and freebsd is completely new
to me as is the freenas environment.

I'm wondering if there is a good/safe place to put shell scripts on the
flash drive for maintenance/cron jobs and what to do about upgrading
so I don't loose my custom work?

I assume parts of the drive are read only and/or a compressed file
system are there any special things I need to do to be able to add
scripts?

I know I could create a home directory on the HD pool, but especially
for cron jobs that could cause many needless HD spin ups.

I was thinking that maybe I should just get another flash drive and
just have it auto mounted, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Any suggestions/input would be much appreciated. Thanks

You could just create a UFS volume on your second flash drive. UFS volumes allow you to specify a mount point such as /usr/local/scripts.
