When to use VIMAGE

I've noticed that VIMAGE is enabled on plug-in jails as default. Is it necessary to use VIMAGE and when can you go without it? When I disable it on a plug-in for example Emby, it still gets an IP address and runs fine. What is VIMAGE doing that I need? I know it gives you a network stack but it seems without it I get an IP address okay, so do I need it?

Typically, it's needed by apps that require their own broadcast addresses. However, it breaks some apps.
