So I've got a 60GB SSD drive that I would like to use on my Freenas

The current set up is as follows:

RAIDZ1 of 3x 1TB 7200 SATA drives in ZFS
4GB RAM

I am not concerned about performance, as my NAS is half asleep, but if I can increase it by decreasing the number of reads or writes from/to the mechanical drives, that would be great, as I'd like it to be quiet and power efficient.
So assuming that i have attached a new SSD to my nas, how do I configure it for a cache buffer and maybe swap partition if my 4Gb is not enough?
Anything else I can do with it by helping the system to run more efficiently?

You can't really do anything with it without more RAM. Using it as a ZIL won't decrease the number of writes. Using it as an L2ARC could, but you need more RAM because the L2ARC metadata is stored in RAM. You're already below the minimum (6GB or 8GB depending on your source) and adding an L2ARC could make your system unstable. An unstable system can eat the zpool causing you to lose your data.

So yeah, no options for that SSD. :(
