What is the domain value?

I recently changed my ISP and I've noticed that my 2 x FreeNAS systems can no longer send emails or get updates. So I believe that I need to replace the IP address of my old broadband router with the address of the new one in Network -> Global Configuration -> IPv4 Default Gateway and Network -> Global Configuration -> Nameserver 1.

But when I do that the GUI stops me saying that the value of "local" in the Domain field is not a valid value.

I haven't specified this value - do I need one? If so what should it be, or how do I change the IP address from my old router?

Yes, you need one - use the same IP address as your gateway (often 192.168.1.1 for example).

Oh - I misunderstood the issue first time through - got it now, though. But I have no idea what the issue might be.

I hope someone with more insight will be able to help you.

Has your router changed its IP then ? If so then you should update those fields.
I set my domain to "home" as there is not one.
I just tried it in 12Beta2 and "local" works
What release are you using ?

Can you post a screenshot of the configuration page?

Extremely easy setup would be

Hostname: freenas
Domain: home.local
Nameserver 1: 1.1.1.1
Nameserver 2: 1.0.0.1
Default gateway: Your router's IP, on the same subnet as FreeNAS
And Save

This would use CloudFlare's name servers, and here's why you may want to: https://1.1.1.1/dns/

Interesting - that saves fine for me on 11.3-U4.1

Is it complaining about your host name? What if that’s freenasb without the underscore?

Email alerts are now working, it's found some updates to apply and my cloud sync is working again

Well spotted - despite it having that value for ever - removing the underscore appears to have worked
Perhaps the old versions were converting underscores to dashes automatically... DNS names can have dashes, but not underscores.
