Hi All,

I have built FreeNAS1 using iscsi targets and this is working perfectly. The problem comes when i have now created FreeNAS2. Now when i scan the NAS's from esxi i can only add new storage to one of them and can't see it on the other. I believe this issue is coming from the LUN ID. I can see the volume in the static discovery of esxi but i am unable to add the storage.

When i remove NAS1 from my storage adapter discovery i can then see the Volumes on NAS2 to be able to format the VMFS partition.

When i try to set the LUN ID manually i get this error:
Jun 5 16:40:35 nas1 istgt[10430]: istgt_lu.c:1915:istgt_lu_add_unit: ***ERROR*** LU1: no LUN0
Jun 5 16:40:35 nas1 notifier: istgt_lu.c:1915:istgt_lu_add_unit: ***ERROR*** LU1: no LUN0
Jun 5 16:40:35 nas1 istgt[10430]: istgt_lu.c:2151:istgt_lu_init: ***ERROR*** lu_add_unit() failed
Jun 5 16:40:35 nas1 notifier: istgt_lu.c:2151:istgt_lu_init: ***ERROR*** lu_add_unit() failed
Jun 5 16:40:35 nas1 istgt[10430]: istgt.c:2799:main: ***ERROR*** istgt_lu_init() failed
Jun 5 16:40:35 nas1 notifier: istgt.c:2799:main: ***ERROR*** istgt_lu_init() failed
Jun 5 16:40:35 nas1 root: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/istgt: WARNING: failed to start istgt
Jun 5 16:40:35 nas1 notifier: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/istgt: WARNING: failed to start istgt

The LUN ID only seems to work when you set it to auto. I think then as you need LUN0 that the LUN ID conflicts with the 2nd freenas.

Has anyone found a resolution to this or has a bug been raised?

That's worth reporting at bugs.freenas.org and posting the issue number here. If it turns out to be a "feature" instead of a bug, it needs to be documented.

There are several parts of you description that don't make sense. Could you elaborate a little more for me?

Now when i scan the NAS's from esxi i can only add new storage to one of them and can't see it on the other.
What do you mean add new storage to one of them? You are not adding storage to a nas using esxi you are mounting a data store to use as storage from esxi.

Yes when i try to add the datastore i.e. create a VMFS filesystem on the volume from the second NAS it is not visible. Yet it can been seen as a static discovery.

Ok, so i have found a work around for this issue. This issue is in fact coming from the serial number of the disk that is created in the target:

i.e.
FreeNAS1 target1 Serial = 10000001 FreeNAS1 target2 Serial = 10000002 FreeNAS2 target1 Serial = 20000001 FreeNAS2 target2 Serial = 20000002
