I thought I might get around to connecting the warning cable from the APC UPS to my FreeNAS 8.3.0 HP Microserver N36L- but the APC is old enough to use a 9-pin serial port, while the HP is too young for that sort of old-fashioned nonsense. I don't want to pay APC's prices for an adapter.
I've got two PCIe slots spare in the HP, and many USB sockets.
Can someone give me a pointer to a serial port PCIe card (or USB->9pin serial adapter, though I'd rather not) that's known to work? Cheaper==better.
