Hi All,

I am bulding a new machine with FreeNas and supermicro.
I will be glad to know if the below configuration will work with 4Kn drives.

1. Does supermicro 6049P-E1CR36L work with freeNAS ??https://www.supermicro.com/products/system/4u/6049/SSG-6049P-E1CR36L.cfm?parts=SHOW#jump

2. Does FreeNAS work with SAS (AOC-S3008L-L8e) and 4Kn HDD support

3. Attached Configuration: Caution:

4. 2x Optional Onboard NVMe M.2 will it work to install FreeNAS on NVMe

5. Spinning a single disk vs. full-array ?? (Does ZFS spin all drives or just the one with the data when reading or writing information)

6. File system ZFS does it work with 4Kn drives?

7. RAID-Z / Z2 / Z3 (Parity protection) which os Better?

8. Boot SSD: 1 x NVMe, 512GB with it work if freeNAS is installed in NVMe?

I would recommend bumping to a higher clock speed CPU if its in your budget. Several items including NFS are more affected by increased clock speed than cores.

NVMe will not get you much on the boot drive. Recommend cheaper SATA DOMs which are available for most supermicro motherboards but not an option on the thinkmate website. You may be able to call them.

The SAS3008 lineup is very commonly used with FreeNAS and you should have no issues.
