Hello,

I want to start the host remote.

The problem is that I do have only 1 available LAN cable to connect. This goes to the HPE NIC, which will not work with WoL (although it is supposed to do so)

The lights of the HPE NIC ports go out once the host is shut down.

This is not true for the onboard NIC port - the lights keep blinking.

Possible solution:

  1. get the HPE 10 GBit NIC to work with WoL - preferred
    1. it is capable of WoL https://netsotech.com/assets/documents/HPE_Ethernet_10GBASE-T_Adapters.pdf
  2. replace the 10 GBit NIC with WoL model
  3. attach a WiFi adaptor to the onboard NIC port an use WoL there
  4. other solution to start the host (no WoL)
    1. I have set up the EFI to start at a given time each day which works fine. However sometimes I need to start the host before that time.

If you can have the host automatically power on when the power circuit is connected (usually a BIOS setting), you could use an external option like a home automation power switch to cycle the power when you want it to start up.

I am in no way affiliated with those brands or devices, just giving some suggestions for the type of thing.

Some of those need a hub to work (like the Philips Hue one), others are Wifi. You could use an app or in some of the cases (most, actually) API calls to activate the switch.

Ok,

here is what I did:

I am using a Wifi adapter - which works great for wake on LAN.

The new problem is:

TrueNAS seems to use the very slow WiFi to transfer the date from Samba shares.

Is there a way to tell Samba to use a NIC / Mac Address / etc. as a primary NIC?

OK, I have found it for myself:

Shares > SMB > edit > bind IP adresses

Great, I knew this had a solution.

Now:

Is this possible for the whole TN Core system to set up the primary IP adress to be used?
