I had the same issue. In my hardware setup, I use USB drives to house my boot disks. Their disk configurations were setup to enable SMART tests, and apparently, they don't work with the daemon any more (and I can't imagine logically if they could). So when I turned that setting off, and restarted the service, it worked.
I suggest if you have something similar, to try it.
I had the same problem. Deactivated smart on the usb sticks and restarted smart. Warning went away.
How did you deactivate smart on the USB drives? I cant seem to see the option as i've got the same issue.I had the same problem. Deactivated smart on the usb sticks and restarted smart. Warning went away.
To disable SMART for USB devices, perform the following steps (old UI):
1. Storage Tab
2. Volumes -> View Disks
3. Click on da0 (single boot device, might differ)
4. Click edit and deselect the SMART service
Edit: For me a reboot was required to make the daemon start again.
/etc/ix.rc.d/ix-smartd status ix-smartd is not running.
