Hello

I have recently come back to FreeNAS after running whs2011. Its been a while so my knowledge on FreeNAS is limited.
Does anyone know how to get the drivers installed in FreeNAS 11 for the 2720sgl card and also get the Raid WEBGUI going.

Thanks

You don't. FreeNAS is an appliance, you don't install additional drivers in it. You also use FreeNAS itself to manage the RAID, you don't use a hardware RAID controller (at least, not if you care about your data).

This is a good opportunity to add that the only HBAs with both reliable hardware and reliable drivers are from LSI/Broadcom/Avago.

What is a "RAID WEBGUI"? That appears to be a dedicated RAID card. The website did not say it could be used as a simple HBA, so it is probably not something that should be used with FreeNAS.

Plus Intel SATA, (and if available, then usually on the system board).

Really , Aren't the highpoint rocketraids any good - There was a driver for them until FreeBSD moved to PKG and made PKG_ADD redundant

Highpoint rocketraid have this little piece of software that allows you to access and control the settings of the card using a webpage a bit like when you go into your browser and go to the FreeNAS ip address . Up comes the gui where you login and change your settings in FreeNAS. Same thing but for the raid card.

There is so much wrong with that concept.
  1. There should be close to nothing to manage (staggered spin up and that's it).
  2. Directly exposing an SAS controller to a network presents a huge attack surface. You're interfacing with a device which can do DMA, so, if you manage to take over the controller, you have effectively pwned the system.
  3. Even assuming a magical, vulnerability-free software, it is needless bloat.

The hardware might be, but the FreeBSD drivers have always been pretty horrible.
