I have been looking into a few different NAS options for a friend who wants some storage. I like the feature set that freeNAS offers over some other solutions, but while testing I have come across an issue.

I have set up to test:
FreeNAS-8.0.2-RELEASE-i386 (8288)
Core 2 Quad on a 965 Chipset Mobo (ACHI enabled)
4GB Ram, and 4 old 400GB drives

Set up a basic config, with the 4 drives in RAIDZ2

Problem:
I pull a SATA cable out of one of the drives
The console shows: "(ada1:achich1:0:0:0): lost device
'%zpool status' shows everything to be good (all disks ONLINE)
The web GUI shows a status of 'HEALTHY'
Web GUI 'View Disks' shows the name has changed from ada1 to blank, and serial to 'Unknown'
Web GUI 'zpool status' shows 'Sorry, an error occurred'

There is no alert in the web GUI

If I then reboot the server then things seem to be as they should (the web GUI zpool status shows ada4p2 is now listed as "17845160810535450288 UNAVAIL", there is an alert, and the volume is listed as "DEGRADED" )

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Yeah OK, I have found some other threads now, I are awesome searching skills.
This is too bad, freeNAS seems very nice but this 'bug' is a total deal breaker. If it can't notify me when a drive dies then any RAID its providing is totally pointless, I might as well have a single disk!
