Could someone please explain the differences between the two?

Both are written to USB memory device. That I understood.

.img can be used to run FreeNAS only ? ( It pretends to be a disk ? )

.usb can be used to install FreeNAS onto a hard drive/SSD only ? It replaces .iso image for machines without a CD-ROM drive. ( It pretends to be a floppy or CD-ROM ? )

If .usb can be burnt into an optical CD-ROM, why we still have .iso ? Is one of them better than the other? They differ by 2MB...
