Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to use part of the RAM of a motherboard as a cache of a RAID controller. It may sound a little absurd, but I've seen RAID cards out there that apparently have not, and I wondered if they were pulling RAM.

Another question I have is if, for that, said motherboard must have integrated RAID. Maybe someone will take their hands to the head, who apologizes for my ignorance.

Thanks for answering. Regards.

ZFS uses the main memory as cache. This is superior to a tiny little hardware RAID controller due to the more powerful processor, more RAM, and ZFS's knowledge of which blocks on a disk are actually in use.

Using separate hardware RAID controllers or "motherboard RAID" is not recommend.
