Hey All,

I'm building out some non production CIFS / VM storage with some older out of use hardware. I've got an opportunity to use either of the following:

1) R720xd with 2x E5-2620 CPUs (2Ghz 6C) Can probably get ~64gb of memory.
2) NX3100 (R510?) with 1x E5620 (2.4Ghz 4C) Limited to 4 memory slots, i could potentially obtain an identical CPU but I do not believe CPU is a huge bottleneck for storage/FreeNAS.

Each of these has H700's in them currently, but I know I'll need to obtain H200's or similar to properly utilize FreeNAS.

I'm leaning towards the NX3100 for potentially lower power consumption with the single CPU, and higher clockspeed.

What should I do? Or are both equally viable if I can outfit both with H200's and sufficient drives.

I would get the R720 because it is significantly newer.
