Hi!

I installed the Plex plugin, made a readonly-link to my media files, imported everything and it works like a charm. Only, about once a day, something seems to crash.

In the WebGUI, I get the message "We couldn't find the server Jarvis." Opening a shell in the jail and doing "service plexmediaserver status" says, it's running. Nevertheless, a "service plexmediaserver restart" fixes it.

The "Plex Media Server.log"-logfile doesn't give any clues, it only shows a warning message repeating over and over again 8WARN - NetworkServiceBrowser: Error sending out discover packet: send_to: Can't assign requested address) and then confirming, it's restarting (when I did a the service restart). No other error messages.

Here is the logfile:
Jan 22, 2015 15:14:18 [0x80a0b0c00] DEBUG - Request: [62.218.34.82:58150] GET /?X-Plex-Product=Plex+Web&X-Plex-Version=2.3.8&X-Plex-

So, the service looks, like it's running. The crash appears about once per day. Do you have any ideas?

What's your hardware and are you using the external Plex servers or just local access?

My hardware specs are in my signature and I forwarded the Port 32400 on my router to access it from away. So, I use the Plex app from my tablet and smartphone locally and remote and use the webaccess http://server:32400/web on the road.

I've been having some similar issues with Plex crashing, though more frequently. I'm using some older clients (google tv devices), so I suspect that that could be the issue, however, it occurred to me last night that this could be connected with some of the SID deadlock issues I'm also having. That's a completely unfounded suspicion thus far, but I do notice that the server itself is disappearing to the client, at least temporarily. I'll look at logs tonight/this weekend.

I'll also note that I'm running the plugin version of the server, but have also installed a version manually in a jail (which is a later server version than the plugin). I'm going to bring that version up this weekend and see if it makes a difference.

I think, I will just try to reinstall the plugin. Of course, I want to keep my libraries and settings. Is it enough to back up the directory
/usr/pbi/plexmediaserver-amd64/plexdata/ and change the permissions and ownership back?

I'm not an expert at plex, but yes I believe that's all you need to save. you could just install a second instance and not delete the first one to be safe

Thank you! I just reinstalled the Plugin. Let's hope, it's stable this time.

I have the same issue and error messages, it only happens when I try to optimize database. Is your db scheduled to optimize daily? I have already tried a plugin reinstall to no avail

Reinstalling the plugin greatly reduced the number of crashes for me. It does certainly not crash daily anymore. It only crashed on my once since the reinstall and that was immediately after stopping playback with the web client. I think, I read somewhere that that was/is a bug. But it certainly does not crash on optimizing the database for me, sorry.

I reinstalled mine today after installing it yesterday and having these issues. After reinstall I'm still having these issues and it requires me to stop and start the server in order to fix it. I was really hoping that Plex would have more stability than MediaBrowser. I still have faith though.

Yeah I did it via the plugin. Let me know how it goes with the manual install

So manual install is even more unstable than the plugin

So last night I tried a fresh install without copying the database back in but still having the same problem with it looking like its running but it really isn't.

Been running Plex for over a year now and have never had a crash. My vote is for bad hardware or not enough memory.

So following a post from https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/141123-continous-disk-writes/ It says to go into your settings > server > network and uncheck the GDM. Once I did that and restarted the service my splunk is no longer being spammed with the
Code:
WARN - NetworkServiceBrowser: Error sending out discover packet: send_to: Can't assign requested address

and its now been up for longer than a minute which is better than it has been. I'll keep this updated with how things turn out.

EDIT: Ok scratch that it just died again.

Here is whats in my box:

BuildFreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201501162230
PlatformIntel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5410 @ 2.33GHz
Memory16357MB

If that was the case I think I'd be having more issues than what I'm currently having though. Plex and Mediabrowser are the only 2 plugins that have given me issues. Mediabrowser also gave me issues even on a Ubuntu VM as well. I think that I might try moving my plex over to a VM and see how it functions over there.

I'm running a 8350, Asus mobo, Intel pro nic, 8gb crucial ecc (verified with memtest).only time I get that msg is it locks up is when I do manual optimization. As far is it being low mem, I Dont see how as it streams up to 4 8mbps 1080 streams without a hitch.I do run jails and system dataset off a WD black though.

My plex jail is crashing when I do a manual optimize **sometimes**, if I add media to plex, scan, then restart the jail, then do optimize, it does it almost instantly, but if I add media to plex, then try to optimize without restarting the jail, it will crash and I will have to restart the jail to be able to access plex again. nothing shows up in my logs, how can I figure this out?

latest version of plexpass was installed manually in a jail on the latest stable release update yesterday. HP Proliant Gen8 with a xeon e3 1230 v2 cpu and 16gb ram.
