I want FreeNAS for media storage so I installed FreeNAS, added a volume and shared as CIFS. I mapped the shared folder and transferred some recorded TV files and ripped DVDs across to test it out.

The transfer went fine and the recorded TV shows play perfectly in Windows Media Center (Windows 7). The DVDs don't work, though. They are found OK and the correct number appear in the library list but they are all entitled 'freenas' and do not play ("cannot detect a DVD in the drive"). This happens on two Windows 7 computers which play ripped DVDs in other network folders fine.

Has anyone come across this before? Any suggestions as to what settings to change? Thanks.

What do you mean by "which play ripped DVD's in other network folders fine." ?

Did you add either MiniDLNA or the Plex plugin to obtain DLNA support? Most NAS's have a DLNA server built in, FreeNAS also has DLNA support but you must install and configure it before it will work properly.

Thank you - that's probably what I need. I'll have a go tomorrow and report back.
