Open Directory, FreeNAS and SSH pub keys

I'm trying to figure out how to allow SSH pub key logins to a FreeNAS that is bound to an Open Directory (Mountain Lion 10.8.3). I looked through the handbook, and I noticed a bit that briefly mentioned importing uses via services -> ldap, but I can't see where that is done on 8.3.1. I have FreeNAS successfully bound to the directory and users are able to login to services like AFP successfully (although I've noticed sometimes it takes 2 tries, the first fails, the second works right away). Anybody have any hints of where to look for doing this?
